ATR 42-600S Moves from Design to Industrialisation

Development of the ATR 42-600S has reached a key milestone: the Maturity Gate 7, marking the end of the aircraft design phase. Overall architecture has been frozen, aircraft performance is confirmed, and ATRā€™s partners and suppliers can start manufacturing the first parts: industrialisation begins!

In March 2021, after readjusting the development schedule of the ATR 42-600S (for STOL) due to Covid-19 constraints, the latest member of the ATR aircraft family successfully reached Maturity Gate 7 (MG7).

This major milestone ends the aircraft design phase. All critical design reviews have been successfully passed: the aircraft architecture has been frozen, the expected performance is confirmed and ATRā€™s partners and suppliers can start drawing release for the new parts, source all necessary components and tools, and manufacture the parts.

ā€œThe STOL teams have been doing a tremendous job to make this possible. They have adapted their ways of working to the COVID-19 challenging context, working collaboratively without being able to see each other or traveling to meet our suppliers. It takes an engaged and passionate workforce such as ATRā€™s to overcome these challenges.ā€ said Michelangelo Esposito, ATR STOL Programme Manager.

Ideal for short runways, with exceptional low speed performance, as well as for hot and high operations, the ATR 42-600S will enable ATR to strengthen its position on the 30-50 seat market, allowing the company to remain regional operatorsā€™ preferred choice.
