A look back at our historic 100% SAF flight
On 21 June 2022 at 10.45 am, ATR Chief pilot Cyril Cizabuiroz, Jean-Pierre Marre, co-pilot, and Pascal Daussin, Flight Test Mechanic, took off from Malmo Airport in southern Sweden for the first flight ever on a Braathens commercial aircraft with 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel in both engines.
The flight lasted approximately 1 hour 20 minutes and landed at Bromma Airport near Stockholm.
Cyril Cizabuiroz commented: “From the flight crew perspective, there are no differences. So for a standard crew, using 100% SAF will be a standard operation as soon as it is certified.”
This historic milestone was achieved in partnership with Braathens, and Neste, the SAF producer.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel is produced with sustainable feedstock and can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions over its life cycle by up to 80%* compared to fossil jet fuel use.*
* Calculated with established life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies, such as CORSIA methodology.
