ATR’s Strategic Alliance with Ethiopian Airlines Group Moves Forward

In a move set to further enhance ATR aircraft maintenance in Africa and the Middle East, ATR and Ethiopian Airlines Group solidified their collaboration on December 12, 2024. The signing of a Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCAP) marks a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts between the two parties to establish maintenance capabilities for ATR -500 and -600 aircraft, catering to operators across the region.

Building upon the foundations laid in July 2024 with the signing of a letter of intent, this agreement outlines a multifaceted approach to cooperation. Key areas of focus include extending Ethiopian MRO’s capabilities in ATR aircraft maintenance, streamlining spares provision through localised stocks, fostering training collaborations between the ATR Training Centre and the ET Aviation University, and establishing international educational partnerships for postgraduate programmes.

This cooperation paves the way for Ethiopian MRO’s initial investments, encompassing essential components such as tooling, ground support equipment, engineer and staff training, and access to technical publications. As part of its steadfast commitment to excellence, Ethiopian MRO aims to secure local certifications and EASA approvals, ensuring seamless support for future customers in aircraft maintenance requirements.

ATR’s unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction is underscored by the provision of dedicated support through a Regional Field Support Representative (RFSR) based in Addis Ababa. Ethiopian MRO’s hangars will be ready to welcome the first ATR aircraft by Q2 2025, marking a tangible step towards operationalising this transformative partnership.

By expanding its presence in Africa, ATR reinforces its mission to bolster regional aviation infrastructure and deliver unparalleled support to customers and operators within the region through the establishment of local partnerships.
