ATR aircraft are the most responsible regional aircraft with the lowest fuel burn*. They are versatile, flexible, and suitable for all business models and all regions of the world, in any conditions (cold, hot, high-altitude runways, harsh environments), and a wide range of airports (steep approach, unpaved airfields, short or narrow runways).

Turbojet vs Turboprop
On regional routes turbo propellers are the most efficient engines burning twice less fuel than turbojets, because they have a different propulsion system from the turboprop: the energy created drives a propeller in return. Because of the large diameter propeller, they require less power, so less fuel to accelerate the air. The turboprop will burn up to 45% less fuel, and emit up to 45% less CO2

Green Financing
An ATR 72-600 has become the first ever commercial aircraft to receive Green Financing. It is recognised as a more sustainable alternative to regional jets and received the financing as an airline wished to replace its ageing fleet of regional jets. Since then, our aircraft are compliant with the Green Bond & Green Loan Principles by the independent ESG rating agency Video Eiris.

In line with our vision and the commitments of the Paris Agreement, ATR aims ‘to deliver and support the most efficient and lowest emission regional aircraft on the market’ and to drive the transition of regional aviation towards net-zero. We not only track and measure the environmental impact of our sites, products, and services, we also work in cooperation with our supply chain to drive more effective environmental management, decarbonise our industry and optimise resource utilisation.
As the world leader in regional aviation, ATR must set an example in all its areas of activities, including its environmental policy. For us, this means:

As a responsible aircraft manufacturer, ATR aims to develop products and services by integrating environmental impact considerations into design processes, namely eco-design, for new products (e.g., materials choice, substances impact assessment).
Reduce the environmental footprint of our activities
Due to the industrial nature of its operations, ATR’s activities may have adverse impacts on the environment. We strive to reduce these impacts in compliance with applicable standards, laws and regulations.
ATR recognises the challenges associated with depleting natural resources, and it is one of our top priorities to manage the waste related to our own industrial operations.
Promote a sustainable use of natural resources throughout our value chain
Many impacts of ATR’s activities lie in the upstream phases of the value chain, which ATR cannot directly handle. This is why we aim to support our supply chain to face and reduce the environmental pressure, to promote a sustainable use of natural resources throughout the whole value chain and to reduce the use of hazardous substances.

Hazardous substances and obsolescence
In the aerospace industry, regulations on substances impact key processes and products. This leads to a growing risk that a piece of equipment or a system can no longer be manufactured or maintained throughout its life cycle. This is why ATR has rolled out a proactive approach based on anticipating risks and implementing the necessary actions to move towards the replacement of hazardous substances in products and processes.

Dismantling
ATR promotes the development of a circular economy model, and is proactive in seeking ways to recover, reuse and recycle materials beyond their initial life. Aircraft recycling is a key priority to reduce our environmental footprint by minimising natural resources consumption. Through a partnership with Tarmac Aerosave, ATR is able to dismantle and recycle or reuse more than 85% of its aircraft parts.
