Committed to sustainability

Our vision is to ‘accelerate sustainable connections for people, communities and businesses around the world, no matter how remote, by delivering and supporting the most efficient, lowest emission regional aircraft on the market.’ As a Company, we are deeply aware of our responsibility to society and future generations. To this end, we defined our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy in 2022 and embodied it as an integral part of our overall strategy.

“For us at ATR, a responsible company means looking after our people, limiting the impact of our business and products on the environment, ensuring we uphold the highest standards of safety and quality, behaving in an ethical & compliant manner as well as embed and advance respect for human rights.”

ATR LOW-CARBON STRATEGY

Greenhouse gases reduction

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. At ATR, we are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with the Paris agreement, to contribute to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

  • Direct and indirect emissions related to our internal operations

We are reducing our operational emissions by improving the energy efficiency of our buildings, using renewable energy sources, transitioning to an electric vehicle fleet and using Sustainable Aviation Fuels in our operations.

Our objectives:

  1. Reduce our CO2 emissions by 30% by 2025, and 50% by 2030 (compared to 2018)
  2. Neutralise the residual emissions by permanent removal or sequestration by 2030

  • Other indirect emissions related to the use of our aircraft and the purchase of goods and services

ATR is committed to continue offering the most responsible aircraft on the market, working hand in hand with our partners and suppliers.

  • Using SAF: we believe that the quickest route to decarbonisation is the use of sustainable aviation fuel and aim to achieve the 100% SAF certification of our aircraft by 2025.
  • Continuously and incrementally improving the efficiency of our aircraft:
    • with our new PW127XT engine, further lowering the fuel consumption of our aircraft
    • with our ATR ‘EVO’ version, incorporating hybrid capabilities and enhanced engine and propeller technologies
  • Improving operations: implementing for instance the latest Air Traffic Management innovations to reduce carbon emissions to a minimum

ATR is working to submit our carbon reduction objectives and targets to the ‘Science-Based Target initiative’ certification.

ATR Low-Carbon Strategy

Energy-efficient buildings

Two of the company’s sites in the Toulouse area (Blagnac and Francazal) are fully powered by electricity coming from renewable sources and biomethane, a gas which emits up to 10 times less CO2 than natural gas.

With its surface area of 9,100m2, the A9 building on the Blagnac site, designed to meet the needs of ATR as it expands while promoting well-being at work for its users, stands out for its energy efficiency. The building is 40% more efficient than current energy performance regulations – the RT2012 standard, the goal of which is to limit energy consumption in new buildings.

Constantly improving eco-mobility

As part of our commitment to limiting our impact on the environment, we are supporting more responsible mobility solutions for our employees.

Carpooling

In 2018,  together with Airbus, Safran and the Toulouse Blagnac Airport, ATR made available for its employees the KAROS app, a digital solution for carpooling. Between September 2018 and November 2022, ATR employees have done over 12,200 commutes via this app, thereby saving more than 192,000km of car journeys; that’s the equivalent of 26 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Electric cars

We are offering our employees on-site charging stations. ATR’s electric vehicles are also at everyone’s disposal on all our sites.

Remote working

ATR supports and encourages up to two days of teleworking a week for all employees who can perform their activities remotely.

Public transport

We are reimbursing 100% of employees’ public transport passes, which exceeds the legal obligation to reimburse 50%

PRESERVING NATURAL RESOURCES

Waste recycling in 2021

ATR’s waste management commitments seek to reduce the quantity of waste the company produces and to optimise recycling of non-hazardous waste.

Our figures for 2021:

  • 53% of our waste has been recycled
  • -32.6%: reduction in total waste produced (2018 to 2021)
  • 0 landfill

Saying no to single-use plastic

Reducing waste at the source is one of our environmental objectives for the 2019-2025 period. From 18 November 2019, on all our sites in France, all plastic cups have been permanently removed from water dispensers and all our staff have been provided with reusable glass and bamboo water bottles instead.

Biodiversity

According to our ISO14001 certification, the impact of ATR’s activities on biodiversity is considered low.
Nevertheless, we always encourage our employees to take action to preserve the environment.

Since 2017, we have installed three beehives on the roof of our Training Center in Blagnac. The hives were put in place by our service provider, Biocenys who is in charge of their regular upkeep. The bees that occupy our hives are of the Buckfast race, renowned for their ability to adapt to urban areas.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES

The management of hazardous substances is fundamental to ATR. We scrupulously apply regulations and rely on a dedicated organisation to manage them.

REACH regulations

We focus on the respect and application of the REACH rules and have created special tools to support this activity.

We actively talk to our partners and suppliers to find solutions to limit or replace the use of hazardous substances.

The most sustainable aircraft

Our commitment to sustainability is also reflected in our aircraft, which emit 45% less CO2 than regional jets and burn 45% less fuel.
